How Sound Healing Works

On body sound work is a relaxation therapy technique that is performed for a fully clothed client and requires no touch. In a typical session, light bronze bowls are strategically placed on and around the body. They are activated by striking the bowl with a padded felt mallet. The result is a soothing sound and subtle vibration that is relaxing for the client. This technique is taught by an accredited organization whose training includes established standards and ethics. In this case, Marie de Martinez is certified through the Vibrational Sound Association.

Bronze bowls of different sizes are used. The basic work is performed using three or four bowls of different sizes, alone and together in groups of two or three. This enables the therapist to adjust the size and placement of bowls on or near the client, in response to any reported stress or pain points in their body.

At the beginning of the session you will be asked if you have any particular pain points or physical stress points. You will also be asked whether you are comfortable with the bowl strike (with the padded mallet) on the body. If there is any concern, we will start with near-the-body sound healing.

Individual sound healing sessions are provided in 30, 50 or 80 minute segments, depending on client need or wish. The client may choose to lie supine (face-up with bowls place on front) or prone (face-down with bowls on or near the back of the body).
